A Champion Career Philosophy from Google’s Champion of Innovation

Jessica Guynn of the Los Angeles Times recently wrote a story about Marissa Mayer who, at age 35, is the youngest person to sit on Google’s operating committee and is also Google’s champion of innovation and design. When asked about her career philosophy, Ms. Mayer mentioned two things: Surround yourself…”with the smartest people who challenge you to think about things in new ways, and do something you’re not ready to do so you can learn the most.” In other words, put yourself in a position where you’re constantly learning and growing. This is the exact opposite of what many people do. They get to a point where they’re comfortable and they want to stay there. When they do this, they stop learning and growing, and the world passes them by.
